"I SPUN HIM OUT!" - Dale Earnhardt, Bristol/1999

Watch the first video, then tell me if you see any comparison to what's happening with Carl and Brad today.

"I got him loose and I spun him out."

At least he was man enough to say he did it!

Carl Edwards was put on a 3-race probation for this incident.

Yahoo Sports already has a similar question going on but here's their question: "Is Dale Earnhardt's dumping of Terry Labonte for the win at Bristol not nearly as iconic to legions of NASCAR fans if Labonte had collected other cars as spectacularly as Keselowski did?"

  1. Not condoning it, but Brad did get into the left rear corner of Carl. I thought he just drifted up into the side of him but the video shows him tapping the corner. It also shows that Carl's wheels never turned down into the 22 on the straight, at least they don't appear to until after they collide and Brad spins...*sigh* I don't know, everything can be broken down enough to be dubious given enough slow-motion replays these days.

  2. tez... Are you a closet Carl fan??? LOL

    Thought I'd ask.

Sure glad they're not running the spoiler anymore. Those airborne wrecks are too dangerous...

Every single one of those wrecks was intentional. Every one of them. Nuff said?

    Thanks Athens!

  3. I'm not, I just assumed that Carl turned down into Brad after nothing more than a little side bump earlier that lap, but those replays show otherwise, lol

  4. While Earnhardt punted Labonte, he didn't do it with the intent of injuring him, just to "rattle his cage a bit." Perfectly legal, and he did it the right way--from the rear. Carl's wrecks are much more vicious and vitriolic, with the intent on injuring Keselowski. As Kevin Harvick stated on an interview with Dave DeSpain, "if it had been me, I'd have punched Carl in the mouth." Keep in mind I am NOT a Keselowski fan, and I call 'em as I see 'em.

  5. I missed the race and I had to rely on YouTube to see the ending, then all of a sudden everywhere you turned, that was the story of the week!

I think Brad is being TOO quiet, like maybe he's got something going on in that head of his but he's got to be subtle about it or just plain "kill him with kindness." That's how I get even.lol

  6. Brad is helping himself by saying nothing because fans for the most part are on his side - so why say anything when we are saying it for him.

Intentional wrecks were and are part of the sport - doesnt make it right or safe. Speeds and banking at Bristol make it somewhat safer to spin someone but still not safe. I am not a Sr fan and dont think winning by spinning is racing.

And Tez - just cuz wheels are not turned doesnt mean he wasnt angling for BK the entire straightaway...you wouldnt be able to detect the angle on slow mo. And Carl never said it was casual contact - he said he wrecked him.

  7. oh I totally agree, Kristen. It was certainly a classic case of Carl going "you know, I usually stay a bit closer to the wall when I'm on the outside line but since he got into me, I'm not doing that this time," as there seemed to be a lot of room between his right side and the wall. I'm not saying he didn't do it on purpose since he did, it was just different to how I thought it looked at the time.

  8. Go back a few more years agt Bristol and you will find big Dale turning and wrecking T Labonte on the front stretch at Bristol coming to the Checkers. Turned T Lab into the wall, then labonte was drilled by Ward Burton.

The only reason Sr wasn't vilified is because Terry still won the race, crossing the line sideways in a destroyed car.

That was very intentional. The one you have is not a 'bump and run'. It is Dale using the 5 car as brakes, so he could wreck him.

  9. Han, you are so good! I found the 1995 Bristol race you are talking about! There's another video of Earnhardt spinning Rusty Wallace in the same race. No wonder you call it SPINOUT! Weren't you at this race? or both races?lol

Guys, don't you just miss BENNY PARSONS?:(
